Approximate Age: 400
Girth (feet): 35’1”

Tree Name: Martin Oak Tree Number: 3 Location: 402 Whitefield St., SSI Approximate Age: 380 Girth (feet): 33’7” History: None Available

Tree Name: McEvers Bayard Brown Oak Tree Number: 51 Location: South of Airport Terminal, Jekyll Island Approximate Age: 585 Girth (feet): 51’ History: Centenarian Tree recognized by the Live Oak Society of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc. This tree consists of a cluster of five trunks growing from the stump of a single live oak harvested between 1740 and 1840. This multi-stemmed tree measures 51 feet in circumference. It is one of the nation’s largest live oaks.

Tree Name: Neptune Small Tree Number: 116 Location: 550 Beachview, Ocean Side of Casino in picnic area Approximate Age: 307 Girth (feet): 20’7” History: Neptune Small (1831-1907), a beloved slave of the King Family, carried the lifeless body of their son, Captain Henry Lord Page King, home to Retreat Plantation from a Civil War battlefield in Virginia. Neptune and his family lived on this tract of land owned by the family as a reward for his faithful service.

We partnered with Glynn County to provide The "Trees of Glynn" – tree history searchable by the tree tag number attached to registered Live Oak.
From this partnership, the "Golden Isles Tree Survey" was born. The story map fulfilled GIFT's vision to make information about our registered Live Oak trees accessible in a map format. GIFT is grateful to the Glynn County staff for making this project successful. We are just beginning to explore ways to utilize the story map to share the fascinating stories of our Trees of Glynn!
